This week on Gay Talk 2.0, the crew is back together for a chaotic Memorial Day episode filled with camping stories, drag queens, AI spirals, community organizing, and some very real conversations about anti-trans legislation happening across the country.
Jay kicks things off with tales from a muddy gay campground weekend complete with campfires, drag performances, afterparties, soup for the boys, and a fundraising drag show benefiting the ASPCA. From “Little Mermaid” transformations to campground chaos, the gays truly survived the weather.
Meanwhile, Tom has officially disappeared into his coding era. Between building karaoke request systems, arguing with AI assistants named Alfred and Lucius, and accidentally replacing human interaction with app development, the crew starts wondering if an intervention may be necessary. The result? A fully functional NFC-powered karaoke request system that actually worked at the bar.
The conversation then shifts into deeper territory as Hope and Nick open up about burnout, Project Phoenix, and what’s next for the New Haven Pride Center. With new board members stepping in and leadership transitions on the horizon, the team reflects on growth, sacrifice, and what it means to build something sustainable for the LGBTQ+ community long-term.
The biggest discussion of the night centers around the newly passed “Protect Kids Act” and the ongoing wave of anti-trans legislation targeting LGBTQ+ youth across the country. The crew gets brutally honest about education, visibility, mental health, and why protecting trans kids matters now more than ever.
We wrap things up with Mama Kim’s Minute, gay history from Canada’s Supreme Court, and the usual end-of-show chaos involving lube, Patreon, and threats to never lose the Gay Talk phone number.
