August 9th 2022 Primaries
Governor – SenateCT-05
Bob Stefanowski, a Republican, is vying for a rematch against Gov. Ned Lamont, the Democrat who narrowly defeated Mr. Stefanowski in 2018. Three Republicans will battle for a spot on the November ballot to challenge Senator Richard Blumenthal, the Democrat who has represented the state since 2011.
The state’s Republican Party formally backed Scott Jensen, a physician and a former state senator who has cast doubt on coronavirus mitigation efforts and vaccines, in the governor’s race. Mr. Jensen is the front-runner to challenge Gov. Tim Walz, a Democrat seeking his second term.
Governor – Senate
Peter Welch, the state’s only House member, leads a small field of Democrats vying for the Senate seat being vacated by Patrick Leahy, who is retiring. Lt. Gov. Molly Gray and Becca Balint, the president pro tempore of the State Senate, are the major candidates in the Democratic primary for Mr. Welch’s current seat. Gov. Phil Scott, a Republican, is expected to cruise to re-election.
