GayTalk 2.0 – Episode 312 – The Primaries Are Upon Us!

On the first half of today’s show we acknowledge the passing of Olivia Newton John, highlighting some of our favorite memories of her career. Jae talks about his trip to Mexico and the 70 family members he was able to spend time with. Nick shares that he once again dealt with COVID this past week and it turns out Tom and Jae had it too. Tom ends the first have with a story regarding safe and unsafe places to travel for members of the LGBTQ+ community. 

Coming back from break, Tom brings up the primaries and why it’s important to vote. Jae highlights Uncoupled, a new LGBTQ+ tv series on Netflix. We close out the show informing our listeners of our new HUMP day recording schedule.


August 9th 2022 Primaries

Connecticut

Governor – SenateCT-05

Bob Stefanowski, a Republican, is vying for a rematch against Gov. Ned Lamont, the Democrat who narrowly defeated Mr. Stefanowski in 2018. Three Republicans will battle for a spot on the November ballot to challenge Senator Richard Blumenthal, the Democrat who has represented the state since 2011.

Minnesota

Governor MN-02

The state’s Republican Party formally backed Scott Jensen, a physician and a former state senator who has cast doubt on coronavirus mitigation efforts and vaccines, in the governor’s race. Mr. Jensen is the front-runner to challenge Gov. Tim Walz, a Democrat seeking his second term.

Vermont

Governor – Senate

Peter Welch, the state’s only House member, leads a small field of Democrats vying for the Senate seat being vacated by Patrick Leahy, who is retiring. Lt. Gov. Molly Gray and Becca Balint, the president pro tempore of the State Senate, are the major candidates in the Democratic primary for Mr. Welch’s current seat. Gov. Phil Scott, a Republican, is expected to cruise to re-election.
