Episode 479 – Are We Still Trusting Polls for The Midterms?

This week on Gay Talk 2.0, the crew is back and already off the rails! With Hope celebrating her birthday week, Tom, Nick (Trish), and Jay-Bird hold down the studio to recap a wild weekend that included a high-stakes barbecue, a dangerous frozen margarita machine, and some very “cursive” moments. Tom shares his harrowing tale of a passion fruit margarita-induced hangover that had him questioning his life choices, while the group debates the ultimate workplace struggle: the “tentative” Outlook invite.

The conversation takes a sharp turn into the political arena as the team looks ahead to the midterms. With the 10-year mark of high hopes and deep disappointments in mind, they ask the big question: can we actually trust the polls anymore? From the “Blue Wave” vs. “Tsunami” debate to the emotional trauma of the last decade in politics, no stone is left unturned.

Nick brings us back to earth with some local perspective on Connecticut politics and the importance of showing up for more than just the presidential races. They dive into the reality of political “showing up” versus actual financial support for LGBTQ+ organizations, highlighting the ongoing work with the New Haven Pride Center.

We also get a healthy dose of “Only in Hawaii” logic when a car rental customer confuses the Rainbow State’s license plates with “woke” propaganda. It’s the kind of logic you can’t make up, and the crew has plenty to say about the difference between being “woke” and just being cultured.

To wrap things up, the cast pays tribute to the legendary Marsha P. Johnson on her birthday, reflecting on the selfless advocacy that built the foundation of the modern gay liberation movement. It’s an episode full of laughs, heavy hitters, and a reminder to do good in the world, even when you’re starting from adversity.
